Exhibition
Zrenjanin (Serbia) 2022

See the big picture with 40 original paintings was invited in 2021 to exhibit in the national museum’s gallery in Zrenjanin, Serbia from the 21st of June until the 10 of July 2022. The exhibitions that take place outside the EU are very difficult to organize with a lot of red tape regarding import /export licenses etc. We were however delighted and honored for this invitation. Desmond drove to Serbia with the necessary documentation and after some long delays at the border the staff of the Museum welcomed us, with open hearts and minds to the exhibition. The team from the museum under the leadership of Jelena Gvozdenac, were amazing. The paintings were mounted by an expert member of her staff under her watchful eye. The Austrian embassy called Desmond and regretted that they could not attend the opening, later in the week the cultural attaché visited the exhibition in Zrenjanin and wrote a report for the embassy. It was an amazing experience, national radio and numerous newspapers advertised the opening night. The people who attended were delighted with the exhibition and Desmond spent hours with them talking about the paintings and the idea behind this global art and peace project. Jelena remarked to Desmond that many of the visitors were really moved by the stories behind the exhibits, see the big picture is more than an art project and this makes it so special. The next evening Serbian national TV ran a nearly six-minute report on the exhibition. Jelena herself is also an academic artist and she donated a piece to the project called ENJOY THE JOURNEY. We certainly will take her advice. We finished off the Serbian visit with some days in the Banat, the district is beautiful and the people extremely friendly. The museum itself is well wort a visit, the amazing history, and legends of this district and of Serbia are exhibited in a most professional way, but this place is alive with workshops, writing courses, pottery classes and much more. We were sad to leave the city and the wonderful people of Zrenjanin.
